Starting Early in Education and Discipleship (SEED)
DEVELOPMENT CENTER INC.
Studies show that a child’s early years are critical to their development. Being so, maximizing this time in exposing the child to rich experiences will help develop both skill and attitude necessary for future success. While the home and the parents are the primary venue and sources of learning, a school environment that provides both materials and programs to enhance all domains of development may be beneficial to the child. We believe that Jesus is the best model of a holistic individual who fears the Lord, strives for excellence and practices compassion. Discipleship, the process of becoming more like Christ, is never too early to begin.

Progress
Through rich experiences, appropriate materials and proper guidance, children are encouraged to explore and discover their environment, thus enhancing all domains of development. Allowing choices within limits builds initiative and helps them attain the potentials they were created with. Children have their strengths affirmed, are challenged to think critically and empowered to make morally upright decisions.

Love
Love is both our motivation and goal. God’s love for children serves as motivation to provide for them an environment where they feel safe and cherished. In such environment, God is a reality and His love is felt through diverse interactions. Peers are accepted and authority is respected. Our goal is that children will grow to develop their own love for God, love for country, love for others and love for self.

Accountability
We are responsible for our actions and their results. Opportunities to be mindful of choices and its impact on others allows children to realize their potential contribution to communities they belong to.

Nurture
Children’s needs are to be met adequately and appropriately. Tasks and challenges, when presented in a manner enjoyable to the child, stimulate their interest and begin a process of lifelong learning. When adults are able to identify a child’s unique capacities and readiness, learning will be appropriate and effective. Opportunities to express oneself clearly and appropriately are provided. Exploration and independence are encouraged just as much as appropriate behavior and discipline.

Trust
When children feel safe to explore their environment, interact with both adults and peers, pursue their interests and express their ideas, both independence and positive social interaction are fostered. They learn to trust their environment, other people and themselves. Eventually, they will learn to trust the invisible God.

Philosophy
The Child

We believe that children are created with God-given capacities, preferences and interests that are unique to each child. They come from diverse family and cultural backgrounds, have distinct temperaments and develop at different rates. These are to be respected and encouraged such that the child may grow to discover his full potential and be contributory members of society. While a child has innate potentials and capabilities brought about by heredity, his interaction with the environment determines how these are realized. Development of his physical, emotional, cognitive, psychological, social and spiritual domains are interrelated and should not be taken independently.

The Learning Process
A child is naturally curious and is constantly seeking ways to understand himself and his environment. They learn best when they are directly involved in activities and are allowed to explore materials using their senses. Concepts experienced in relatable contexts are understood best and retained longest. Play is one of the ways they acquire knowledge and master skills. Their potential is reached through proper guidance and motivation. Variation in activities and provision for mistakes challenges them to solve problems using previously acquired knowledge and skill.

The Family
The home is the child’s first school. Being so, it is critical to understand the child in the context of the family and immediate community to ensure that concepts are relevant. A strong home-school partnership aligns goals for the child and allows for maximized learning. Input from parents are valued and considered in the planning and implementation of learning experiences, as well as programs that strengthen family relations and function.

The Teacher
The teacher, who is knowledgeable about early childhood education and development, facilitates learning through scaffolding. The teacher prepares the environment to stimulate interest and motivate exploration and discovery. He/She provides the child with opportunities through a carefully planned curriculum that takes the child’s skill, readiness and interests into consideration. A teacher is flexible in adapting materials and methods to address the surfacing needs of the child. The teacher exhibits an encouraging attitude at all times, treats each child equally with respect while recognizing individuality, and models Jesus in kindness and excellence.
The School

We provide progressive education in an environment that is safe and conducive to discovery and learning through an integrated curriculum. Activities and materials support active, experiential and interactive learning. Materials are carefully selected to support the development of all domains and appropriately placed in various learning areas. Programs in place are developmentally appropriate, relevant and meaningful to the child and are implemented by competent and nurturing staff. Opportunities for creative and enjoyable play are provided and concepts are presented in themes that are interesting to the child. The environment encourages initiative while providing opportunities for cooperation and interaction. We foster an environment where God is respected and biblical truths observed. We partner with the parents to bridge the gap between the school and home environments. We seek to equip the child not only with academic knowledge, but also with skills to adjust to the demands of real life situations in excellence.
